Welcome to

Philippine Merchant Marine School

PMMS is more than a school.

PMMS is home to driven students with dreams as vast and courage as deep as the world’s oceans.  PMMS is home to faculty that cares, teaches and gives from the heart.  PMMS is home to sturdy administrative and support personnel, weathering the storms of an institution as it meets tomorrow’s ever-growing demands.  PMMS is home to leaders and well-grounded visionaries, who see beyond business margins, hear more than the siren call of vanity, and remember what matters and endures – the LEGACY of a solid foundation, the legacy of a good home.

These are our people, and PMMS is our second home.

Academic Programs

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN MARINE TRANSPORTATION
*offered in both Manila and Las Piñas campuses

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is a four-year course designed to produce graduates who will perform specialized tasks on deck aboard domestic or international merchant marine vessels. This program consists of a three-year shore-based education and one-year shipboard apprenticeship on board a domestic or international merchant marine vessel with a capacity of not less than 500 gross tons.

After completion of the three-year academic requirement, a Transcript of Record and a Certificate of Completion of Academic Requirements will be issued. A photocopy of this record will be submitted to CHED for Certification, Authentication and Verification (CAV). The CAV issued for this purpose will be the basis for the issuance of the seaman’s book. The student will be automatically enrolled for the one-year apprenticeship or shipboard training. The issuance of Special Order (S.O.) will be granted after the completion of the one-year apprenticeship program and upon submission of the following requirements:

  1. Certificate of Sea Service (PRC-MDO Form No. 5) bearing the seal of the vessel and the shipping agency duly signed by the Master of the vessel and the Port Captain/Personnel Manager of the Company and duly notarized. Submit four(4) photocopies including the original one.

  2. Two (2) photocopies of the 1st two pages & port of entry of Seaman’s Book.

  3. Employment certificate from the shipping company duly signed and sealed.

  4. Apprentice Log Book

  5. Photocopy of Transcript of Records of the Associate Course (AMT).

  6. One (1) 2 x 2 I.D. picture with shoulder board.

A new Transcript of Records and a Diploma in Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) bearing the Special Order will then be issued for the purpose of PRC Board Examination.

NOTE: In the application and processing of the Special Order, CHED requires two-year validity for an enrolled one-year Apprentice Shipboard Training course. However, if a student submits the said training requirement beyond two years, re-enrolment of the same is required.
